NEW DEVELOPMENT IN SCENIC ACRES Revera 1 3D Rendering of Proposed Facility

UPDATE: On November 24, SACA held an information session where NORR Architects, representing Revera, presented updated plans for the proposed facility. At the request of SACA, several changes to the plans were proposed by NORR Architects, concerning landscaping, parking, generator placement, lighting, and pathway. To keep nearby residents informed, SACA repeatedly placed signs near the property with information about the process.  While SACA recognizes the right of residents to appeal, we support the proposed facility as a benefit to the SA community as a whole. The proposed facility meets the requirements and bylaws for the property’s zoning designation (maximum height, setbacks, etc.).  This senior’s home will provide an option for residents who have called Scenic Acres their home to stay in the community in their senior years.  Pending any appeals (SACA does support the proposed plans), site preparation is expected to start in 2017.

Background: The last large undeveloped parcel in Scenic Acres, at 8720 Scurfield Drive, will see development in the near future. The owner, Revera, plans to build an facility containing 214 living units. The building will provide senior’s accommodation for independent living and for those requiring memory care. SACA held two open houses, on July 14 and 19, to present the residents of Scenic Acres with detailed information about the plan and give an opportunity to ask questions and provide comments. Public interest was significant at both events. The presence of NORR Architects, Revera and City representatives facilitated lively discussions. We collected a number of comment sheets, mostly from nearby residents, and forwarded these to the City file manager for the project. While SACA welcomes development of the property, we did submit a response with comments and concerns to the city.  These comments concern aspects such as proximity to existing housing, building height, shading, landscaping, public pathway access, potential noise, and traffic.
Revera with NORR Architects are currently working to meet all the conditions to obtain a development permit, as a normal part of the application process. We expect to receive a response to our comments and  we will keep the community informed and engaged. In late October or early November we plan to hold another open house, as soon as we have more information to present. Keep checking our website for details.
