NEW DEVELOPMENT IN SCENIC ACRES 3D Rendering of Proposed Facility
Update: March 8, 2018: After a hearing at the Subdivision and Appeal Board, a revised Development Permit was issued on April 3, 2017. During the summer of 2017, Revera Inc. decided to make some changes to the interior of the development and some minor changes to the exterior design of the building. An open house was held on October 17, 2017, for 47 adjacent residents to address the proposed changes to the development plans. At this meeting, NORR Architects, the architect and project consultant, outlined changes to the project, including:
- minor changes to the building footprint
- enlarged underground parkade
- the building location, height, and overall form and character are in keeping with the original Development Permit
- relocation of the parkade ramp and surface parking to improve traffic circulation and reduce impact on neighbouring properties
- the SDAB requirements from the previous Development Permit are binding and are included on this proposed development.
NORR Architects has applied for a new Development Permit, DP2017-5006. Currently, the permit is undergoing a City Detail Team Review and NORR is responding to comments. There are significant site contamination issues that must be addressed. If the permit is issued, and there are no appeals, NORR forecasts that construction will be underway by mid-June, 2018.
The Scenic Acres Community Association supports the proposed facility as a benefit to the community as a whole. The proposed facility meets the requirements and bylaws for the property’s zoning designation (maximum height, setbacks, etc.). This senior’s home will provide an option for residents who have called Scenic Acres their home and want to stay in the community in their senior years.
Background: The last large undeveloped parcel in Scenic Acres, at 8720 Scurfield Drive, will see development in the near future. The owner, Revera Inc., plans to build a facility containing over 200 living units. The building will provide senior’s accommodation for independent living and those seniors requiring memory care.
SACA has held several open houses to present the residents of Scenic Acres with detailed information about the plan and give them an opportunity to ask questions and provide comments. This feedback was incorporated into the first development permit, DP2016-2447, which was approved after incorporating changes subsequent to the Subdivision and Development Appeal Board decision SDAB2016-0117.
