In response to the changing demographics in Scenic Acres and the desired of the community membership, for the past 5 years SACA has made programming and activities for youth a priority in the SACA Strategic Plan.
One of the first initiatives was to partner with Junior Achievement Southern Alberta and bring the JA Company Program to the Scenic Acres Community Centre. On Wednesday nights starting each October, Youth in Scenic Acres can learn the skills required to start and operate a small business under the guidance of experienced business professionals. In 2009 SACA in partnered with the City of Calgary and held an open Pizza Night for any youth in the community who wanted to come out and provide SACA with feedback on what they would like to see offered for them in Scenic Acres. Our of this meeting evolved the NYV (Northwest Youth Volunteers). Overseen by Alina Wolski, Youth and Volunteer Recreational Programmer with the City of Calgary, the NYV meet in the Palmer Boardroom at the Scenic Acres Community Centre ever other Monday night. Their goal is to seek out volunteer opportunities in the local community while also being social and having fun.
