President/Director, Jim Palmer:  Jim held a variety of senior corporate and operations business and finance manager positions over a 34 year career with Shell Canada.  He has recruited, coached and mentored people for 30 years and have led many business process improvement, control, reporting and governance initiatives.  Jim has served with the SACA Board for over 15 years in director capacities of Transportation, Vice President and President and on a number of committees.  Jim has also held executive positions for sports, church and YMCA boards in Calgary and Fort McMurray.  Currently beyond Scenic Acres, Jim is President of the Rocky Ridge Conservative Association, Vice Chair of the City of Calgary Subdivision & Appeal Board, Treasurer of his church board and leading several committees.  He has been married to Sandy for 36 years and they have three adult children.  They have lived in Scenic Ares since 1993.

Vice-President/Director, Membership Development:  Ike Zacharopoulos: Ike worked with the dedicated volunteers who mobilized the community in support of a special tax used to maintain and enhance our community green spaces.  He now leads the volunteer LEAF committee managing this annual maintenance program.  Ike has extensive experience with property and employee legislation, leading teams over a long career in the public and private sectors.  Ike and his wife Julie have two grown children and have lived in Scenic Acres for many years.

Secretary/Director, Suzanne Greco: Suzanne joined the SACA Board in February 2018.  She worked as a corporate legal assistant for 15 years and when she completed her B.A. in Psychology/HR, transitioned to a career as an HR Professional.  She has volunteered on many executive school councils, block parent associations as well as on the Community Committee for the Town of Slave Lake. Suzanne has been married to Paul for 36 years and they have two adult children.  They have been living in Scenic Acres since 1997 and love this community.

Treasurer/Director, Katherine Hawkins: Katherine joined the SACA Board in March 2018.  She was born and raised in Toronto then moved to Winnipeg for the first part of her career.  Moving to Calgary in 2000 she has owned and operated her small business accounting practice since then.  She brings to the table a great deal of experience with process implementations, report writing and with the non-profit sector.  She has also volunteered over the years with various organizations within the corporate world and with her children’s clubs and schools.   Katherine has two children that keep her very busy running to activities and when she has time, she enjoys travelling the world.  She is looking forward to continuing her work on our Board and giving back to the community.  She has been a resident of Scenic Acres since August 2016.

 Director, Parks & Environment, Colin Yeo: Colin joined the SACA Board in March 2016.  Colin is a retired geologist, having worked in the petroleum industry for 40 years.  He is currently the Former President of the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta and was the President of the Canadian Society of Petroleum Geologists in 2007.  Based on this experience, he brings strategic, communication and governance insights to the Board.  Colin is currently on the Development Committee.  He is the President of the BP Alumni Club and an outreach ambassador for the CSPG.  Colin and his wife Maryann have two children and two grandchildren.  They have lived in Scenic Acres for the past five years but were in Silver Spring for the prior 36 years.

 Director, Sports & Affiliates, Keely Willment: In her day job, Keely works for the City of Calgary, with an array of experiences from coordinating programs, community initiatives, events, and advising sport organizations, to elections and census.  She has also dedicated a significant amount of time supporting the women’s rugby program at the University of Calgary. Keely’s young family has been in Scenic Acres since 2015, and are busy running around soccer and ball diamonds, biking on the many pathways in the community, and watching owls, coyotes, and birds in the ravine. 

Director, Facilities, Mike Fursier:  Mike joined the Board as Facilities Director in April 2018. Born and raised in the UK, Mike has over 20 years experience in construction and project management roles in the UK, Middle East and Canada. Mike led the team building and maintenance of the SACA outdoor ice rink for the few last years and is looking forward to making it a more regular fixture in the community. After renting in Scenic Acres for 3 years, Mike and his wife, Amanda, recently bought their first Canadian house and are relishing putting down some permanent roots! Mike and Amanda have been married for 13 years and have two children.

Director, Community Development, Michael Chui:  Michael had 10 years experience in I.T., economics with last 5 years as a Finance Manager for a continental transportation company. He also spent last 14 years as technical official in the sport of triathlon and helped numerous sports organizations transition from operation to governance boards.  He represented Canada and Alberta in the 2015 Pan American Games (in Toronto) and 2017 Canada Summer Games (in Winnipeg), respectively.

Director, Janalee Morris:  Janalee is a productivity and learning specialist and works at Mount Royal University with students with disabilities.  She has worked as a university instructor and has managed both national and international research projects. She has conducted research in Canada and Africa, focusing on issues of employment, gender issues, policy, education, and inclusion.  She grew up in a small town in Saskatchewan where she developed a passion for community.  She moved to Scenic Acres in 2013 where she lives with her husband and six children.

(Non-Director) General Manager, Ruth Sorrentino:  In addition to being SACA’s General Manager, Ruth is a Provincial Returning Officer and Federal Field Liaison Officer overseeing all the Returning Officers in Edmonton and Central Alberta. Ruth has also been the Editor of the Scenic Review for almost 15 years. Prior to working for SACA, Ruth was a stay at home Mum for 8 years who volunteered for SACA as a Director, as well as at Events. When not working, Ruth is a Hockey, Soccer and Football Mum but also enjoys reading, camping, volunteering and staying active. Ruth has been living in Scenic Acres with her family for 15 years.
