President, Ike Zacharopoulos: Ike worked with the dedicated volunteers who mobilized the community in support of a special tax used to maintain and enhance our community green spaces. He now leads the volunteer LEAF committee managing this annual maintenance program. Ike has extensive experience with property and employee legislation, leading teams over a long career in the public and private sectors. Ike and his wife Julie have two grown children and have lived in Scenic Acres for many years.
Secretary, Anita Lamarche: Anita joined the SACA Board in fall of 2020. Anita worked in various Marketing and Communications roles with Shell in Canada and North America and enjoyed a 30 year career in Marketing before becoming a Realtor in 2018, currently licensed through CIR Realty. Anita and her daughter Jenna have lived in Scenic Acres since 2011 and her partner John and daughter Savannah have been residents since 2017. Anita is often seen in the dog park with her very large golden retriever, Ted and feels blessed to have wonderful neighbours and a multitude of parks and greenspaces in our community and nearby. Anita has volunteered with other professional organizations and Toastmasters Clubs and is currently also assisting with Gazebo Park Restoration initiative.
Treasurer (& Past-President), Jim Palmer: Jim held a variety of senior corporate and operations business and finance manager positions over a 34 year career with Shell Canada. He has recruited, coached and mentored people for 30 years and have led many business process improvement, control, reporting and governance initiatives. Jim has served with the SACA Board for over 15 years in director capacities of Transportation, Vice President and President and on a number of committees. Jim has also held executive positions for sports, church and YMCA boards in Calgary and Fort McMurray. Currently beyond Scenic Acres, Jim is President of the Rocky Ridge Conservative Association, Vice Chair of the City of Calgary Subdivision & Appeal Board, Treasurer of his church board and leading several committees. He has been married to Sandy for 36 years and they have three adult children. They have lived in Scenic Ares since 1993.

Director, Community Development, Colin Yeo: Colin joined the SACA Board in March 2015. Colin is a retired geologist, having worked in the petroleum industry for 40 years. He is a Former President of the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta and the Canadian Society of Petroleum Geologists. He brings strategic and governance insights to the Board. He is currently the Secretary of the BP Alumni Club. Colin and his wife Maryann have lived in Scenic Acres for the past 11 years but were in Silver Springs for the prior 35 years.
Director, Community Engagement, Awad Loubani: As a Canadian and international risk management (RM) expert, Awad is a trailblazer in enhancing the RM function by moving the risk culture from avoidance to focusing on “informed risk outcomes”. He has been representing Canada on ISO meetings concerning ISO 31000 and derivative standards/products since 2006. In addition to serving on the SACA Board, Awad is President of A.M.A.L. Risk Management Services Inc. Awad earned his MBA degree in Management of Financial Resources – University of Calgary. He is a retired federal government executive where he was Director of Risk Management and Special Projects. Awad taught risk Financing course Instructor at Carleton University. He served as a board member of the Multifaith Hosing Initiative; the Community Co-Chair of Community and Police Action Committee of Ottawa Police Services; and Co-Chair and Vice Chair of the Board of Directors of Peace Camp Ottawa, which brought together Israeli, Palestinian, and Canadian youth participants.
Director, Facilities, Mike Fursier: Mike joined the Board as Facilities Director in April 2018. Born and raised in the UK, Mike has over 20 years experience in construction and project management roles in the UK, Middle East and Canada. Mike led the team building and maintenance of the SACA outdoor ice rink for the few last years and is looking forward to making it a more regular fixture in the community. After renting in Scenic Acres for 3 years, Mike and his wife, Amanda, recently bought their first Canadian house and are relishing putting down some permanent roots! Mike and Amanda have been married for 13 years and have two children.

Director, Parks & Environment, Lee Syhlonyk: Lee and her family have lived in Scenic Acres for over 30 years. When their house was first built, they had a view of the farmers field across the road, complete with cows and the occasional coyote. Much has changed in the neighbourhood since then, although the coyotes are still here. Lee retired in 2013 and has spent much time at the family cabin northwest of Calgary, tending a big garden with her husband. Lee will be getting up to speed on all LEAF matters under the guidance of Ike as well as stewarding community interest in a variety of projects.
Director, Sports & Affiliates, Keely Willment: In her day job, Keely works for the City of Calgary, with an array of experiences from coordinating programs, community initiatives, events, and advising sport organizations, to elections and census. She has also dedicated a significant amount of time supporting the women’s rugby program at the University of Calgary. Keely’s young family has been in Scenic Acres since 2015, and are busy running around soccer and ball diamonds, biking on the many pathways in the community, and watching owls, coyotes, and birds in the ravine.
(Non-Director) General Manager, Ruth Sorrentino: In addition to being SACA’s part-time General Manager for over 10 years, Ruth has been the Editor of the Scenic Review since 2005. Ruth is a democracy junky and serves as a Provincial Returning Officer as well as the Field Liaison Officer for Elections Canada, overseeing 14 Returning Officers in the Edmonton and Central Alberta Region. As a lifelong learner Ruth is currently enrolled in the Conflict Resolution and Mediation Program through Mount Royal University. When not working or studying, Ruth is a Hockey, Soccer and Football Mum who also enjoys reading, camping, volunteering and staying active. Ruth has been living in Scenic Acres with her family since 2005.
